St. Therese – MTC Colleges was founded in Tigbauan, Iloilo on March, 1983 by the late Atty. Arturo A. Sebastian with the vision to supply manpower needs to both the local and international maritime industries. At the time, St. Therese-MTC Colleges started as a Maritime Training Center specializing in four (4) safety courses (SOLAS).

At present, St. Therese – MTC Colleges Tigbauan site is now one of the three (3) academic sites of St. Therese-MTC Colleges. The institution is now globally recognized as one of the leading Maritime Higher Educational Institutions in the Philippines; producing excellent and competent graduates for the growing demand of the Maritime Global Market.

ST-MTCC Tigbauan site is known for its core programs which are Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering, both of which have met the PACU-COA Level III re-accredited status, ISO 9001:2015 standards and certification by the Det Norske Veritas. The site also offers excellent programs in Hotel and Cruise Line Services and Hotel and Restaurant Services equipped with qualified instructors to train and educate young and passionate learners to become future practitioners in cruise ships, hotels, restaurants and other hospitality related establishments. With the site’s Senior High School Maritime-Track Program, students are able to have the necessary maritime knowledge and skills to prepare themselves before entering the Maritime College Program.

The ST-MTCC administration is committed to provide a learning environment equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to help students develop their understanding and critical thinking. The school challenges the students to think and perform the necessary proficiencies needed.

BS in Maritime Transportation (BSMT)

Bachelor of Science in Maritime Transportation (BSMT)

Bachelor of Science in Maritime Transportation (BSMT) is a maritime education program that covers the mandatory education and training for Officers in Charge of a Navigational Watch required under Regulation II/1, Paragraph 2.5 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended. It covers the study of navigation, cargo handling and stowage, controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board and some of the knowledge and understanding under Table A-II/2, as well as fundamentals in radio communications under Table A-IV/2.

BS in Marine Engineering (BSMarE)

Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE)

Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) is a maritime education program that covers the mandatory education and training for Officers in Charge of an Engineering Watch required under Regulation III/1, Paragraph 2.4 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended. It covers the study of marine engineering, electrical, electronic and control engineering, maintenance and repair, controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board at the operational level and some of the knowledge and understanding under Table A-III/2.

Food and Beverage Services NC II qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to provide food and beverage service to guests in various food and beverage service facilities. To attain the National Qualification of Food and Beverage Services NC II, the candidate may apply for assessment in any accredited Assessment Centers, and must demonstrate competence in all units/clusters of core units of the Qualification.
A person who has achieved this qualification and awarded National Certificate (NC) is competent to be employed as Waitstaff or Food and Beverage Service Attendant.

To attain the National Qualification of Housekeeping NC II, the candidate may apply for assessment in an accredited Assessment Centers, and must demonstrate competence in all units/clusters of core units of the Qualification.
A person who has achieved this qualification is competent to be employed as a Junior Cleaner, Assistant Cleaner, Assistant Public Area Cleaner, Cleaner, Public Area Cleaner, Attendant, Room/Cabin Attendant/Room Maid, Laundry Attendant, Housekeeping Attendant and Butler.

Academic Track-Pre Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization (Pre-Bacc)

Pre-baccalaureate Maritime Specialization is a modified program of a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand under the Academic Track. In this specialization, six specialized subjects of the STEM strand were retained and three were replaced with maritime-related subjects. The goal of the Pre-baccalaureate Maritime Specialization is to encourage SHS graduates to pursue maritime higher education. With this, the country will be able to produce more seafarers at the officer level. (Joint DepEd Memorandum and STCW Circular No. 1 Series of 2016)

Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) - HE/Tourism/HRM

Technical Vocational Livelihood (HE/Tourism/HRM)

TVL-HE/Tourism/HRM is designed to develop students’ skills useful for livelihood projects at home. It provides a curriculum that is a combination of core courses required for all SHS strands and specialized hands-on courses that meet the standard hour requirement and competency-based assessment of TESDA. The senior high school TVL track is designed for students who wish to start working right after they graduate from senior high school. These vocational courses give students the skills and knowledge they need to get the certifications necessary for work. The TVL track is ideal for those who intend to work abroad as skilled workers.

In all Academic Program and Training Program Offerings of the College are Certified to ISO 9001:2015 standards and Level III Reaccredited Status by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) will be changed to “ Maritime and Training Program Offerings of the College are Certified to ISO 9001:2015 standards and the BSMT and BSMarE Programs are Level III Reaccredited Status by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA)”.
